North Carolina is Weighing Options in NCAA Report

InsideCarolina.com reported on Wednesday that information in the NCAA report regarding the North Carolina football program would be known on Friday, the 13th of August.

The National College Football Report posted findings on this site as to the content of the report on Wednesday, the 11th of August. Since that posting, none of the information has changed, but the strategy of the UNC athletic department has.

It has been widely reported that UNC hired a lawyer with a background in NCAA rules compliance to advise the school while the NCAA investigates. This report seems to imply that the lawyer was hired as recently as Wednesday, the day of UNC receiving the report. This is false. Rick Evrard was hired at the begining of the investigation to consult with UNC on all matters surrounding the probe.

Be that as it may, UNC and the NCAA were prepared to release the information in the report on Friday. It was the opinion of Evrard that the appeal of the suspension for Austin should be crafted prior to public comsumption of the information. As the NCAA is quite happy to handle these types of things outside the pervue of the media, they agreed wholeheartedly.

While this may cause fans on all sides more angst, it has been deemed the best possible way to proceed. The public release of information will happen sometime in the next week.

  5. Dr. Blog, you'd better never set foot on our campus. We're prepared to fire on sight. Permits were issued to campus police. Please send a picture so we'll know what...um, for ID verification.

By the way, does anyone know what quinella means? I need to raise money for the athletic department in a hurry.

  6. Dr. Blog, if you information is right kudos to you. If your information is wrong, you're nothing but a big fat douche-bag.

  8. Ha...UNC is APPEALING a 1-game suspension for Austin?!? You UNC fans really believe this stuff? That's quite possibly the lightest possible, absolute best case scenario that anyone could imagine given the "facts" we know about the trip to CA...that's excluding any speculation about Blake/Wichard involvement.

If that "punishment" were actually handed down, UNC would take it and kiss the NCAA investigators arses as a thank-you. Appealing is the last thing they would ever consider.

But hey, keeping the UNC faithful on the hook is definitely driving up the traffic for this blog. I bet he's raking in the advertising revenue from Google Ads!

  12. That 1 game suspension would be served during the game against LSU. If I'm UNC, of COURSE I'd appeal that verdict...nothing to lose and everything to gain.

  13. If I'm UNC, I'd rather have an excuse for the LSU game. They're going to lose by multiple touchdowns whether Austin plays or not. At least they can feel better about themselves by saying "well, we didn't have Austin because we employ a cheater as a coach."

  14. LSU can barely score multiple touchdowns anyway.
